When asked whether the importance of being a size zero truly matters, many will attempt to look beyond a woman’s size, or weight, and say that ultimately it does not matter that much. However, with celebrities and fashion experts glorifying size zero, women have begun to internalize various truths about being thin.
Let us bust some of these myths and help reach out to the self-confident side of you, by making an attempt to understand what is really good and what is not.
Myth: Being thin makes you happy.
Fact: Absolutely not!
The interpretation of beauty by the media and the fashion industry is based on an unrealistic representation of waif-thin models. The true meaning of beauty seems to have been completely distorted.
Happiness comes from something deeper; a sense of achievement, good and healthy relationships, and positive self esteem.
Myth: Thin people are healthy.
Fact: What you see on the outside may not really be too good to be true.
Many people have great bodies, but suffer from many internal illnesses like digestive disorders, chronic sinus infections, and so on. One needs to be fit from the inside out.
To get fit it is important to focus on a healthy mind and body, rather than attaining some magical figure.
Myth: Starving is a good way to lose weight and look thin.
Fact: If you starve yourself you will lose weight, but you will also be harming your body.
When you deprive your body of the proper nutrients it affects your muscles that includes your heart. Starving yourself also affects your ability to fight off infection. Most importantly when you starve yourself, you are choosing to become anorexic. This will harm your entire body.
Protect your body from harm. If you want to lose weight, eat healthy, and work out (go on walks, find an activity that gets you moving, and that you enjoy). Starving yourself and becoming anorexic is not the answer, nor will it help you look good. It’s likely that you will look sickly if you choose to lose weight that way.
Myth: Thin people do not need to exercise
Fact: Physical activity is not only essential for overweight people, but for the thin people as well.
A sedentary lifestyle can lead to many diseases like diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease irrespective of one’s weight. One has to move the body despite one’s age, sex, or body type.
Being physically active relieves stress, is a great energy booster, and gives you numerous health benefits like strong muscles, joints, and bones.
Myth: Thin people are not prone to heart diseases
Fact: This is a common misconception. Thin people are still susceptible to heart disease. If you have high cholesterol and high stress levels due to poor diet, despite being thin, you will still be at risk for heart disease.
Myth: Thin people can eat and not get fat.
Fact: Our genes determine 50 percent of our set weight and the rest is affected by our diet and lifestyle.
Another essential factor is that how we burn our calories and maintain our weight is up to our body metabolism. Each one of us has unique metabolic activity, which can be subjected to a slight increase by eating the right food, and with exercise.
So let’s flaunt those curves! Lose weight if you need to and achieve a healthy body, but definitely do not starve yourself in order to achieve a certain weight or figure. We all have our own body type and a specific ideal weight according to our BMI (Body Mass Index), so be you. There’s nothing that can get more beautiful than you just being a healthy, positive, vibrant you!
