Governments gone mad ...
Well, maybe no the entire government, but someone in there is not thinking straight.
Explanation: I just heard from a trainee in Norway, that the supermarkets there are copying a practice which has been in place in Sweden for the past 12 years. It seems that it's also either already in place or at least coming to Great Britain as well.
A sign on the packaging of foods in the stores. OK, so? So, this sign is a "healthy food sign" meant to help consumers choose healthy foods when they do their grocery-shopping. Sounds good, right?
Here's the snag though: In order to qualify, the product must not contain more than 10 grams of fat or 9 grams of sugar (per 100 I imagine). This means that frozen pizzas and white bread qualify, but tuna and mackerell and salmon do not!
No one has had a thought for the types of fat or the types of grain/flour used!
And this is where it gets serious: when asked, the consumers said they trusted this sign blindly. After all, it was approuved by higher powers wasn't it, and they know! Sure .....
(sigh) the battle of the bulge is not to be won on government level it seems ...
